FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Announces Charity Partnership with LGBT Health Center
Chicago, IL – 04 25, 2011 – Chicago Outfit Roller Derby will be partnering with the Howard Brown Health Center for the entirety of their 2011 home season.
Partial proceeds from all five home bouts this year will go toward Howard Brown, one of the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender organizations in the nation. The health center focuses on eliminating disparities in health care experienced by LGBT individuals by providing primary medical care and HIV/STD prevention, among other services.
“The Outfit takes pride in being a very queer-friendly league,” noted Bethany Johnson, who skates as Meg Gyver.
In past years, The Chicago Outfit donated proceeds from each bout to separate organizations, including Ignite the Spirit, Girls Rock! Chicago, and the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN). This year, the roller derby league decided to make a much larger contribution to a single organization by forming a partnership with Howard Brown Health Center.
The Chicago Outfit home opener for their fourth season is on May 14, 2011, at the Windy City Fieldhouse (2367 W. Logan Blvd) with a double header against the Tri-City Rollergirls of Ontario and the Southern Illinois Rollergirls.
